COUNSELOR
Counselors are responsible to the school principal:
Among the duties and responsibilities are to:
1. Counsel students; help them make decisions concerning education, vocational and personal issues; maintain a “balance of cultures”.
2. Work cooperatively with parents, teachers, other administrators, psychologists and nurses for the benefits of students.
3. Aid pupils in selecting a course of study directed toward educational and/or vocational progress; help students become aware of the course of study he/she must follow in order to fulfill graduation requirements.
4. Assist students in the transition to future training or education, including making written recommendations, helping in the application process, and disseminating educational and scholarship information.
5. Recommend special activities involving community resources and agencies, when deemed of value for the individual student.
6. Confer with colleagues, heads of departments, and the principal concerning trends in curriculum development unique to the multi-language student.
7. Assist in the orientation and registration of students.
8. Assist in the coordination of the school testing program; confer with students and parents concerning proficiency in the basic skills as shown by test results.
9. Provide information and interpretation to the school staff and parents pertinent to students’ achievements, abilities, educational plans, cultural differences and bilingualism.
10. Assist in maintaining appropriate records
11. Supervise classified personnel assigned to the “department”.
12. Assist in budget development.
13. Assist with the development and implementation of articulation and orientation programs specific to the needs of students from other cultures.
14. Assist the principal in planning and developing the master schedule.
15. Supervise the administration of testing programs.
16. Serve as data processing “coordinator,” as it pertains to individual student needs.
17. Assist in research and planning guidance inservice for faculty at the school level, particularly with reference to multi-cultural/language students.
18. Perform additional duties assigned by the principal.
