Sacramento City Unified School District seeks a principal who is both passionate about transformational leadership and poised to implement new ideas to craft an innovative and creative place to teach and learn at Nicholas Elementary School. This new leader will establish their own vision while at the same time honoring the traditions and culture on the campus where all students are encouraged and supported in striving for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and nurturing atmosphere. Currently there are 541 students enrolled at Nicholas Elementary School. The Nicholas student body of students is approximately 48% Hispanic/Latino students, 25% Asian, and 16% African American. Additionally, 92% of its students are from socio-economically disadvantaged households, 38% are English Learners, and12% of Nicholas students receive Special Education services Nicholas’s new principal will need to address areas of concern surrounding academic performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics across several student groups. This leader will need to be visionary in their methods to address Chronic Absenteeism, as well as highly versed in Trauma Informed and Culturally Responsive Practices, Positive Behavior Intervention, GLAD strategies and Universal Design for Learning. The new leader must be an expert in monitoring and evaluating early literacy, English Learner progress, and high quality tier one instruction. The staff and learning community at Nicholas Elementary has high expectations for students. Teachers work as a team to encourage students to be independent learners and use a variety of small group methods to develop problem-solving skills, cooperation, and higher-level thinking skills. Teachers are incorporating continuous improvement currently, focusing on high leverage vocabulary building as a means to increase comprehension of text for all Nicholas Students. Requirements / Qualifications
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional elementary school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the elementary level. Preference given to bilingual speakers, and expertise in vital programs within individual schools including, but not limited to, STEAM, Montessori, Dual Immersion, Waldorf, etc. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hold a valid Administrative Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required. Please note that all employees in the Sacramento City Unified School District must meet the District’s vaccination requirement which states that ALL employees must either be vaccinated prior to February 28, 2022 or have an approved exemption on file.
