Pony Express’s new principal will be required to work with stakeholders - including teachers, staff and a strong PTA - to build a foundation of equity and access that prepares students for advancement within the district, and for postsecondary success in college and careers. The school’s student body of approximately 375 students reflects the rich diversity and culture of its geographic location: 43% of its students are Hispanic/Latino, 18% Asian, and 11% African-American. In addition, 65% of the student population is Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, 20% are English Learners and 10% receive Special Education services. Pony Express, a Title I Achieving School and a California Distinguished School, provides additional services that enrich the student experience and supplement the academic program: ? Autistic Pre-School ? Intermediate Moderate to Severe Special Day Class ? Title I Reading and Math, Tutoring ? Full day Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) ? English Language Development ? ASES (After School Education and Safety) and 4th R before and after school care Pony Express’s new principal will need to build a rigorous program to address low student performance in English and math, especially among certain student groups such as Hispanic, African American and Students with Disabilities. According to the latest SBAC/CAASPP results, 57% of students met or exceeded standards in English Language Arts and 51% of students met or exceeded standards in Mathematics.
Requirements / Qualifications
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional elementary school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the elementary level. Preference given to bilingual speakers, and expertise in vital programs within individual schools including, but not limited to, STEAM, Montessori, Dual Immersion, Waldorf, etc. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hold a valid Administrative Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required. Please note that all employees in the Sacramento City Unified School District must meet the District’s vaccination requirement which states that ALL employees must either be vaccinated prior to February 28, 2022 or have an approved exemption on file.
