  5. Knowledge of and ability to implement the subject matter, philosophical, social, and educational concepts relative to the duties and responsibilities listed on this job description
    1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    2. As a Director of Learning
      1. Teaches courses in social studies: History, Geography, American Government, Political Science and Humanities according to courses of study as adopted by the Board of Education. Conducts other appropriate learning activities within the social science field
      2. Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study
      3. Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and laboratory experiences appropriate to social sciences; other suitable activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry
      4. Provides a variety of instructional methods to adapt the curriculum to needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds
      5. Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship
      6. Develops knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations and their influence on personal freedom, education, and living standards of the people in those nations
      7. Develops knowledge, respect, and understanding of cultural groups throughout the world and emphasizes the need for international cooperation
      8. Develops an understanding of the contributions of minority racial, religious, and political groups to American culture, and the role of minorities in our present world
      9. Encourages students to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems
      10. Selects book, instructional aids, instructional supplies, resource speakers, field trips, and other social science activities
      11. Relationships
        1. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level.
        2. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other professionals
        3. Communicates with parents to discuss the individual student progress
        4. Teacher should be knowledgeable about affairs and organizations
        5. Professional Attitude, Responsibilities and Participation
          1. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the District and in self-selected professional growth activities
          2. May adequately teach students of different backgrounds and levels of ability
