CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: CUSTODIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Principal, maintain assigned rooms, building or group of buildings, offices and service facilities in a clean, orderly and secure manner during an assigned shift; perform outdoor and general grounds care duties when assigned. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Clean classrooms, showers and locker rooms, restrooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices, hall and walkways and related facilities. Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, seal, wax and polish floors. Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets. Clean chalkboards, desks, chairs, easels, chalk trays and other classroom instructional equipment. Dust, polish and wash windows, walls, tables, furniture, benches and woodwork. Clean restrooms, including doors, mirrors, sinks, walls, floors, toilets and hardware; fill dispensers and receptacles as needed. Arrange, set-up and remove furniture and equipment in preparing classrooms, auditoriums or other activity areas for special events, activities or meetings. Make minor non-technical repairs necessary to keep assigned areas and equipment operative, safe and clean; paint student lockers and walls as required; assemble gym equipment operative, safe and clean; paint student lockers and walls as required; assemble gym equipment, tables and chairs. Empty and clean trash and garbage cans and replace liners. Sweep walkways, concrete and blacktop surfaces, pick up paper and other debris on grounds and walks and dispose of refuse. Raise and lower flags; lock and unlock doors and gates, secure areas and set or turn off security alarms. Clean and adjust shades, blinds, desks, chairs and other furniture. Assist in emergency repairs and requests for assistance from the District Maintenance and Operations Department on a short-term, temporary basis. Participate in thorough cleaning of schools and facilities during vacation periods. Check and report unsafe conditions of playground equipment and grounds. Receive and distribute supplies as required. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques. Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment. Safe working methods and procedures. ABILITY TO: Learn and follow established schedules for cleaning of assigned areas. Learn and apply established cleaning methods and procedures. Use custodial equipment and materials efficiently, properly and safely. Perform minor non-technical repairs independently. Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance. Make simple arithmetical calculations. Observe health and safety regulations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Some positions in this class may be required to possess a valid California driver's license. Incumbent must have an acceptable driving record and qualify for incurability by the District's insurance carrier. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Indoor and outdoor environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work as required by position. Evening or variable hours. Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving heavy furniture and equipment. Walking or standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hand and fingers to operate equipment. Bending at the waist. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. HAZARDS: Contact with cleaning agents and chemicals.
