Job Description Under general supervision, to develop and implement health services for the care and prevention of injuries to student athletes; to administer first aid and emergency medical care; to administer rehabilitation of injuries; and to perform related duties as assigned. Teach Sports Medicine classes and work with administration to create Rosary Academy Sports Medicine Program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title. • Receive and review student-athlete health history records, review student-athlete physical examination forms for completion and authenticity of physician’s signature. Disseminate all pertinent information to coaches and athletic department. • Maintain accurate, detailed medical quality records on medical history, physician’s referrals and instructions, injuries and treatment protocols and progress, including concussion baseline testing and tracking, wrestling weight management records, in compliance with all RA Policies, HIPAA and FERPA requirements; prepare necessary reports. • Work with RA nurses and AP of Academics to maintain accurate, detailed reports about the current status of RTL (Return-to-Learn) and RTP (Return-to-Play)plans for student-athletes and communicate (Return-to-Play) plans for student-athletes and communicate, at a minimum, weekly reports to athletic director, head coaches, nurses, and administration. • Provide training room services for school-sponsored athletic practice sessions on a schedule determined cooperatively by the principal and athletic director. • Provide medical coverage for school-sponsored home athletic contests on a schedule determined by the athletic director. Note, home events can be in Fullerton or La Habra depending on the event.

Essential Duties cont. • Travel to away, school-sponsored athletic events, with school teams of student-athletes on team transportation (i.e. buses, vehicles) as scheduled. • Tape and otherwise prepare student-athletes for school-sponsored athletic competition. • Provide immediate care of athletic injuries sustained by student-athletes at school-sponsored athletic activities (including but not limited to practices, contests, conditioning sessions, etc.) and refer the athlete to medical facilities when necessary. • Identify and treat student-athlete athletic-related injuries and return student-athlete to the field of competition as soon as is safe. • Advise coaches of flexibility, strength and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance of student-athletes. • Administer ImPact© baseline testing to all student-athletes. Administer ImPact© testing following a head injury for all student-athletes. Monitor any RTL/RTP plans in compliance with CIF and California State Law, as well as RA policies. • Provide instructions about aspects of injuries, conditioning and nutrition to student-athletes. • Counsel student-athletes with health or injury problems and make referrals to health agencies; decide, in absence of on-site physician, whether a student-athlete is medically able to participate in practice and/or return to competition in compliance with all CIF, California State Law and RA Policies.
• Conduct sports medicine workshops for student-athletes, RA coaches and other school personnel. These workshops may include, but are not limited to providing information on injury prevention, recognition and treatment, basic first aid, concussion and heat illness recognition, blood borne pathogens, performance enhancing substances, HIV/AIDS, the RA protocols as well as CIF sports medicine policies. • Advise and assist student-athletes with medical equipment needs, with equipment purchases and fittings. • Supervise the use of athletic training equipment; maintain the athletic training workspace and treatment room in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. • Maintain athletic training supplies and equipment in athletic training workspace; maintain an accurate inventory of all athletic training room supplies and equipment; maintain first aid kits and supplies for use by school teams traveling to school-sponsored away athletic contests. • Teach sections of Sport Medicine classes as assigned by the Principal; develop, organize and supervise a student-trainer program. • Advise administration in development of, and have working knowledge of, Emergency Action Plans for all school athletic facilities, including emergency contacts for that emergency plan. • Develop, foster and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including student-athletes, athletic trainers, coaches, parents, physicians and health center personnel; facilitate communication among parties.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
A typical way to obtain the above knowledge and skill is a combination and experience equivalent to:
• Masters’s degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE certified instution.
• Board Certified Athletic Trainer with an NPI number.
