Description of basic functions and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Services and the school site principal, the Teacher on Special Assignment for MTSS Implementation will assist in all matters pertaining to the development and implementation of a consistent Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) by working directly with site administration, certificated, and classified staff in alignment with the district’s vision and goals.

 

Major duties and responsibilities

Collaborates with site and district leadership in creating a shared vision and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

Establishes connection for MTSS framework and philosophy to other district and site initiatives.

Guides the school site in the development and implementation of tiered interventions and supports.

Supports and coordinates the development and implementation of MTSS processes.

Provides training, consultation and support to certificated and classified staff to facilitate the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Assists in monitoring the fidelity of implementation of MTSS at the school level, including both academic and behavior support systems.

Assists site staff in analyzing student needs and linking student needs to appropriate interventions for struggling students.

Communicates to site admin and staff during all stages of the MTSS process, including the creation of timeline, goals, outcomes, topics, and format of all tiered meetings.

Facilitates the school site’s Tier 1-3 team meetings.

Coordinates MTSS staff development activities for school-based personnel.

Models use of data to inform decision making.

Maintains cooperative working relationships with staff, site Professional Development Committee, and district personnel.

Ensures that parent and student voice are included in the MTSS implementation and that parents and students are represented in the Tier 1-3 teams.

Maintains effective and timely written and oral communication with school staff and administration.

Supports the adoption and implementation of Universal Design for Learning, and Culturally Responsive Teaching as the foundational framework and pedagogy for teaching and learning in our district.

Other duties and responsibilities

Attends all professional development and district-level MTSS meetings.

Communicates regularly with the District MTSS Leadership Team.

Serves, as requested, on district committees.

Maintains professional competence through professional reading and attending MTSS related workshops, courses, and conferences.

Other duties as assigned.
