CENTINELA VALLEY UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER JOB DESCRIPTION PRIMARY PURPOSE:  The primary role of the School Social Worker is to identify and assist students, families, and school systems in overcoming barriers that interfere with learning through the use of assessment, counseling, consultation, coordination of school and community resources, and program development. The School Social Worker utilizes knowledge of human behavior, social, cultural, and community influences to help create a positive learning climate. The School Social Worker functions as a mental health professional on multi-disciplinary teams and provides case management services. REPORTS TO:  Immediate Supervisor: Principal Itinerant Supervisor: Director, Student Support Services  COMPENSATION: Appropriate Placement on Certificated Salary Schedule D WORK CALENDAR: Social Worker Calendar WORK LOCATION: School Site CORE DUTIES: School Social Worker essential functions shall include but are not limited to: Assessment and Evaluation 1. Provides assessments to determine the social, emotional, behavioral needs of students for the purpose of providing effective intervention strategies for students and their families. 2. Collects and records information to share with appropriate personnel as a component of case studies. 3. Serves on multi-disciplinary team(s) to address needs of students with or without disabilities to assure implementation of appropriate services, programming and/or placement. Consultation 1. Contributes special knowledge of human behavior and relationships to staff. 2. Provides consultation to administrators and teachers on broad areas of mental health. 3. Consults with administrators, faculty, and staff on school and student needs. 4. Consults with parents regarding ways they can help their child become more successful in school. 5. California Clear Pupil Personnel Services Credential specializing in School Social Work A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university Experience providing case management, facilitating support groups, and counseling in a school setting Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams Experience collaborating with community based organizations and government agencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
