Job Summary
School Based Counselor to provide services to support social, emotional and behavioral goals and academic success of students in a Special Education School setting. Population features students from 5th grade through the ages of 22 with various mental and behavioral health needs. Clinical supervision provided for Intern Credentialed MSW or MFTI. Services will include Individual Counseling, Group Counseling, Parent Support and Family Counseling. Collaboration with interdisciplinary team including: Educational Specialists, Speech and Language Therapist, Behavior Intervention Specialist and Occupational Therapists. Key Duties Include: -Managing a caseload of multiple students with varying needs. (caseload will vary depending on school population). -Providing counseling to students with a basis in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) -Utilizing additional interventions as needed to stabilize students in crisis. -Actively collaborating with student support teams, including: family members, teachers, district representatives and other support staff. -Participating in the Individual Education Plan (IEP), process in support of student success. Experience serving students with emotional, behavioral or in the Autism Spectrum.
Client-centered work to assist with locating resources for immediate needs (ie: food, housing), ongoing needs (ie: applying for jobs), and future needs (ie: researching colleges).
Familiarity with local resources and support services pertinent to the special education population. Faciliate connection and/or orientation with applicable agencies.
Develop and manage prevocational and vocational work training locations for individual students and classrooms.
Attend IEP's for each student and present IEP goals as applicable.
Conduct ITP assessments with each student as they are enrolled, and ongoing assesments as needed.
Provide mental health inervention and treatment, as well as crisis intervention as requested by clinical director.
Consult with teacher on an ongoing basis to identify students' needs and progress.
Assist students in finding work program internships, develop community based instruction opportunities for students to meet ITP goals.
Locate local community events and activities for teachers to access with their students to fulfill ITP goals. Complete requirements for each event (ie: registration, tickets, etc).
