POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction Executive Director of Special Education and Supervisors, the Special Education Teacher on Assignment develops and supports sites in providing specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
- Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives E
- Follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students E
- Utilizes program excellence checklist with each site’s Special Education team to target areas for continuous improvement and compliance E
- Facilitate and deliver professional development activities that foster program excellence and address the achievement gap E
- Provides consistent and weekly in class support and coaching that promotes the implementation of standards based instruction and inclusive practices E
- Works with school site staff to monitor mainstreaming, inclusion and access to the core and/or intervention programs for students with disabilities E
- Serves as a resource in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for each special education student E
- Recommends to support staff, classroom teachers, parents and district personnel appropriate diagnostic/instructional services for individuals with exceptional needs E
- Provides consultative and resource services in program and curriculum planning, research, and program evaluation for special projects involving students with exceptional needs within the school and at the district level E
10. Assist school site staff to fully utilize SEIS, the district online IEP system E
11. Utilize IEP agenda when attending IEP’s as indicated above E
12. Assists with implementing recommendations from Special Education Audit E
13. Other duties as assigned E
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Exemplary teaching ability
- Demonstrated effective leadership experience in collaborative teacher teams at the site and/or District level
- Possess interpersonal and communication skills marked by the virtues of equity, inclusion and respect
- Organizational skills to manage a diverse workload and complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge and understanding of State Standards and Assessments
- A willingness to be a life-long learner and to stay current in a variety of emerging educational technology and software
- Ability to build trust and work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, staff and parents.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience preferred
- Valid California Special Education teaching credential (mild to moderate OR moderate to severe)
- Multiple Subject and/or Single Subject Credential preferred
- Authorization to work with English Language Learners (such as CLAD Certification)
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Autism authorization
