Job Summary
The job of Paraeducator is done for the purpose/s of supporting the educational process by performing specialized instructional support to individuals and groups of students, staff, training on special topics, and coordination of district-wide programs. Full job description is attached.
Requirements / Qualifications
SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process will include screening to evaluate training/experience, ensure the application is complete and applicant meets minimum qualifications. Candidates who qualify based on submission of NCLB compliance will be ranked by matrix based on education and experience. Candidates not submitting NCLB compliance will be required to pass the paraeducator exam and will be ranked according to score. An eligibility list will be established and used to fill positions as vacancies occur. Candidates that do not submit proof of NCLB compliance will be required to participate in the Paraeducator Academic Exam. Exams will be held the first week of July (dates TBD). The assessment is based on the job description and provided by Fresno County Office of Education. Job descriptions are available on the District website, Personnel Commission, or Human Resources. **Exam prep materials are available in the “links” for candidates required to take the exam.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent and prior experience working with students in a classroom environment. Experience relative to this position must be detailed on the application. Experience may be paid or unpaid. In addition, NCLB requirements must be met by compliance with one of the following methods: a) completion of 48 units from an accredited college or university; or b) completion of an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or c) Paraeducator Certificate or successful completion of CBEST; or d) Passage of the NCLB Paraeducator Academic exam in reading, writing, mathematics, and ability to assist instruction. A passing score of 70% in each of the three sections is required.
