WALNUT VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ELEMENTARY LEARNING SPECIALIST K - 5 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Elementary Learning Specialist (ELS) ensures that students, parents and staff are provided the support necessary to be successful in grades K-5. ELS’s serve as a resource to teachers (classroom management and instructional practices), parents (information & communication), and students (supervision & activities) while assisting students/staff in attaining a meaningful, enriched school experience. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works with elementary teachers, developing strategies to enhance student success. 2. Reinforces/implements the school student management plan. 3. Participates in parent/teacher conferences. 4. Provides leadership in curriculum and special projects. 5. Conducts demonstration lessons to introduce instructional practices. 6. Assists teachers in interpreting, assessing and planning for student assessment. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Takes an active role in promoting the school’s objectives to students, parents, and the community at large while fostering a positive relationship. 2. Participates in assigned/appropriate playground, lunch, bus or other supervision activities. 3. Collaborate with middle school personnel to ensure a smooth transition to the secondary level. SUPERVISION: Works under the direct supervision of the principal. SALARY: Appropriate placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule – 184 workdays. REQUIREMENTS: ? Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential authorizing elementary service. ? Preferably 5 or more years of teaching experience including several grade levels. ? Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth by attending coursework, workshops or seminars that pertain to student performance, leadership, curriculum development, instructional practices or assessing student data.
