Requirements / Qualifications

Basic Function: Under the supervision of the Principal of Peterson Middle School, this position will maintain the habitat of the Bryan Osborne Nature Area located at Peterson Middle School. The Nature Area Curator will perform a variety of ground maintenance duties that include: planting, pruning, cultivating, watering, installing/maintaining irrigation systems, building sheds/greenhouse, trail upkeep, and evaluating the site’s natural resources (soil, water, animal, plant, and wildlife). The Curator will also collaborate with others to create a plan for conservation and provide educational experiences to the district’s K-12 students. While the primary function of the curator position will be to maintain the habitat of the Bryan Osborne Nature Area located at Peterson Middle School, this position will also interact with visiting teachers and students and will support environmental science education by collaboratively preparing and delivering presentations to those visiting the Nature Center. The individual selected for this position must be knowledgeable about current principles and practices of nature resource and ecology conservation, as well as wildlife management. Qualifications: Candidate must have wildlife management, natural resources, or conservation planning experience. Candidate must also have experience in maintenance of a natural area. A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related area preferred. Candidate must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, an acceptable driving record, and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier.
