DIRECTOR OF PURCHASING AND STORES
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, Business Services, plan, direct and implement a comprehensive purchasing, stores, transportation and telecommunications program.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Formulate departmental policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. E
Organize, plan and implement programs to enhance purchasing, warehouse, transportation and telecommunications effectiveness. E
Direct the activities of the Warehouse and Transportation Departments through the appropriate supervisor. E
Direct the receipt, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment for the District. E
Work with administrative, instructional staff and outside vendors on the evaluation and purchase of District equipment, supplies and contractual services. E
Resolve complaints from vendors and departmental representatives. E
Evaluate price quotations and current market trends; prepare standard specifications and write specialized specifications. E
Examine and prepare information necessary for awarding of bids; make recommendations to the Board of Education with regard to the procurement of materials, equipment and supplies. E
Direct and participate in purchase of materials, supplies and contractual services. E
Consult with legal counsel. E
Supervise, train and evaluate staff. E
Prepare reports and submit to superiors; prepare department budget. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Warehouse practices and stock record systems.

Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training.

ABILITY TO:
Plan and schedule buying activities for greater efficiency and service.
Write detailed specifications and teach specifications writing. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Plan and supervise work.
Perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s degree or any combination equivalent thereto in economics, business administration or finance and five years of experience preferably in a government field and three years of experience as a supervisor.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Hearing and speaking accurately to exchange information.
Seeing to read a variety of materials and drive a vehicle.

Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding twenty (20) pounds.
