Director of Facilities, Maintenance, Operations and Transportation JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent, plans, organizes, and manages work of assigned Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation personnel. Directs, reviews, and inspects contract construction, maintenance, operation and transportation activities. Performs related duties as assigned. Committed to providing leadership, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and cross-training to provide optimum services and support. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: •Supervises, and evaluates Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation staff, as assigned, and the maintenance and operations of the District. •Recommends and coordinates new construction, modernization, and deferred maintenance projects. •Represents the District with architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants, and contractors. •Directs the design, construction, inspections, repairs, and maintenance of all District facilities, properties, and grounds. •Reads and interprets plans and specifications. •Makes periodic tests of materials and workmanship. •Conducts regular and final inspections and recommends acceptance of District construction projects. •Reviews and recommends change orders. •Prepares plans and specifications for tenant improvements and maintenance projects not requiring the services of an architect. •Manages the District’s Labor Compliance Program. •Develops, reviews, and revises site Facilities Master Plan. •Directs and oversees essential transportation and maintenance services. •Oversees maintenance services for all District vehicles; and prepares specifications for purchase of school buses, transportation equipment, and safety programs; assures maintenance of records and reports. •Maintains assurance that laws and regulations governing pupil transportation are followed, including procedures regarding drivers, vehicle maintenance, routes, driver instruction, and safety traini

•Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to maintain a current knowledge of legislation, legal codes, and requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:
•Five years of experience of increasingly responsible management or supervisory experience in maintenance and construction of buildings, grounds and facilities, and transportation in a school district, general school administration, or a related field.
•Knowledge of business management, architectural design, basic engineering, and construction operations and procedures; knowledge of the building codes, ordinances, and regulations of the state and local authorities; knowledge of California Title 19 provisions; knowledge of pertinent safety orders issued by the State of California Division of Industrial Safety; must be familiar with the Uniform Building Code, including public school building regulations for the handicapped, knowledge of the methods of construction; knowledge of inspection methods and their practical application; knowledge of building trade terminology; requires knowledge of the principles of contract negotiation and management; knowledge of various contracts and agreements, state forms and applications.
•Knowledge of provisions of the California Motor Vehicle and Education Codes and the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Testing Procedures applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of pupils, safe driving practices, principles of efficient and economical bus routing techniques, and scheduling of employees, rules and regulations affecting District Transportation Department; principles of dispatching and scheduling of school buses, training, supervisor, and evaluation techniques, and record keeping techniques.
•Ability to supervise the maintenance and operations of the District; to read and interpret building plans, specifications, and related contract documents; detect construction anomalies by inspection, inferior materials, and poor workmanship; to take samples of materials and prepare test specimens for laboratory analysis; to keep accurate records; to make clear and concise reports; plan and direct facilities planning and construction; supervise the maintenance and operations program for the school district; to supervise others and deal tactfully and effectively with representatives of private and public agencies as well as District personnel.
•Five years of responsible experience in management, maintenance and operations, architectural design, construction engineering or equivalent.
•Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Engineer in related fields.
