CERES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Student Support Program Specialist Reports To: Director of Special Education Salary: Administrator Salary Schedule Classification: Administrative Management FLSA: Exempt (salaried) Work Year: 12 Months – 222 Work Days Board Ratified: 1/21/2010 BASIC FUNCTION: The Student Support Services Program Specialist has responsibility for formulating and/or implementing district policy based on California Education Code and Title V regarding the guidance, health, psychological, and special education programs of the District. He/she facilitates evaluation, research and staff development activities essential to the effective implementation of the above mentioned programs. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: • Program development, implementation and evaluation: o Plans and develops program goals for guidance, health, psychological, special education and other related student services o Plans programs, coordinate curricular resources, and evaluate effectiveness of programs for students o Observe, consult with, and assist staff in implementing district programs o Maintains current staff/student ratios, making staffing recommendations to the Director of Special Education. o Assume responsibility for assuring that pupils have full educational opportunity • Professional development/growth/consultation: o Plan and implement staff development, program development, and innovation of special methods and approaches o Meets regularly with the Director of Special Education o Provide coordination, consultation and program development primarily in specialized area(s) of his or her expertise o Implement staff development activities related to issues for student support and school-site personnel • Administration of policy/procedure/budgeting: o Coordinate student support services including the application, implementation, administration, evaluation of grants and projects o Coordinates identification and assessment o Coordinates procedural safeguards o Coordinates curriculum development o Coordinates internal program review o Coordinates data collection and management o Coordinates evaluation of the effectiveness of student support services o Coordinates interagency agreements o Coordinates services to medical facilities o Coordinates services to licensed children’s institutions and foster homes o Prepare student service reports o Determines technology and material needs for teachers of special needs students and communicates those needs to the Director of Special Education o Coordinates testing materials and training for teachers of special needs students o Coordinates contracted services from Stanislaus County Office of Education and the Mental Health Department • Community Involvement: o Act as liaison with civic and other community agencies on services related to students, staff and school o Develop and coordinates services from various social agencies and educational institutions o Participate in civic and community activities related to student support services o Serves as a representative/designee for the Director of Special Education at meetings with community agencies o May serve as administrative designee at Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting • Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and application of: Special Education learning principles, instructional materials and methods, evaluation procedures, clinical teaching and supervision, laws pertaining to special education, staff development, core curriculum. Ability to: • Coordinate • Evaluate programs • Work effectively with a wide variety of organizations and with people of all socio-economic cultural backgrounds • Provide educational and administrative assistance, support and leadership to the professional staff, instructional assistants, clerical staff, and department administrator in the operation of the District Student Support Programs • Understand, implement, and give complex oral and written directions in English • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work • Compose clear, complete, and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling • Drive a car CREDENTIALS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Credentials: A valid special education credential, or clinical services credential, or health services credential, or school psychologist authorization. Administrative Credential or working toward. A valid California Driver’s License. Education: Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university Experience: Any combination of experience and training in increasingly responsible teaching assignments with a minimum of 3 years experience in 2 or more of the major areas of responsibility listed in the Representative Duties area.
