THE POSITION Under the direction and supervision of the principal, the Visual Arts Chair will oversee the daily operations of the Visual Arts Department. Candidates must be dedicated to increasing diversity in the student body and creating access to the program for students of color and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, while maintaining the exceptional outcomes the school is known for. The selected candidate will provide visionary leadership in the development and expansion of the Visual Arts program. They will develop curriculum, hire, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the other arts department chairs. They will create opportunities for students to present their work in LA communities and high-profile events, and to work with non-profit arts providers in developing programing and recruiting “pipelines” for prospective LACHSA students. They will recruit and admit student’s representative of LA’s diverse populations, fostering a safe and inclusive culture among students and faculty.
Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: EXPERIENCE Five or more years of professional work as an artist, with a CV representative of the candidate’s level of the achievement, arts teaching in an institutional setting with high achieving arts students, and significant administrative or management experience. EDUCATION Preferably a master's degree in Visual Arts or related field. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE Must possess and maintain a valid California teaching credential in Art, OR be in a California teacher credential program and be Intern Eligible in Art (Must attached Intern Eligibility letter to application). Applicants with credentials not recorded with the Los Angeles County Office of Education must submit written evidence of appropriate credential or eligibility.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for All Los Angeles County Office of Education Employees
Under Superintendent Policy 4060, COVID-19 Vaccination, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) requires that all LACOE employees, including substitute employees, temporary office workers, hourly/part-time employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. An individual is considered “fully vaccinated” when at least two weeks have passed since that individual’s receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
