Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

ABOUT THE JOB: Under the direction of the Public Information Officer, helps plan and participate in the production, publication, and distribution of print and electronic communications to district staff, students and the community; supervises the district’s central print shop operations; implements plans to promote positive image and branding of the district; and performs related work as assigned. 

JOB DUTIES: Supports the development and implementation of strategic and integrated communication, community engagement, and strategic marketing plan and adjust the plan as needed; assists in the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy to enhance visibility of Districtwide communications; directs, organizes, prioritizes, supervises, and evaluates the print shop staff and work; consults and recommends to district staff options for a wide variety of printing and duplicating needs; supports the development and coordination of internal and external communications and media content including video, social media, newsletter, and other print and digital publications; coordinates multimedia projects to ensure professional, high-quality videos, social media, and other electronic communications; assists in developing various publications, which may include news releases, postings, reports, and other communications that highlight goals, objectives, policies, programs, activities, and accomplishments of the district; collaborates with district departments to provide meaningful information in print and electronic formats to various stakeholders, which may include parents, administrators, and community partners; collaborates with departments to design layouts and content for brochures, publications, newsletters, and promotional materials when communicating information to ensure adherence to district policies, regulations, and guidelines; helps coordinate the design, development, and information content for the district website and social media platforms, including social media campaigns and engagement with individuals on the platforms to ensure timely communication and responsiveness; promotes special projects, events and campaigns for the district; supports the management of digital media projects conducted by outside vendors and student interns, which includes vendors being on-site; may assist school and district office administrators on crisis communication messaging; assists in the monitoring and maintenance of district social media activities, which may include conversation threads, comments, and responding to inquires outside of work hours, particularly in emergency situations as needed; assist schools and departments with best practices on appealing websites, social media, mobile applications, and any other print and electronic communications; supports the training and mentoring of student interns to assist with multimedia projects; may assist in writing compelling articles about the district for print, broadcast, and electronic communications.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communication, public relations, journalism, or related field; and two years of professional experience in public relations, public information, or communications, which includes the coordination of related projects and activities. Knowledge of Photoshop software and photo editing is required. Some experience working in public schools is desirable. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. 
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING…. 
Knowledge of: Current trends and issues in public education; public information channels and methods of distributing news; public relations principles and practices; Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility compliance; principles and practices of maintaining content on websites and social media; principles and techniques used in establishing and maintaining strong community relations; fundamentals in writing, composition, layout and production for mass media communications; methods, techniques, software, and equipment used in photography and video production; newspapers, radio, television, and other communications media sources and resources; diverse cultures in the community; research methods, fact sources, and statistical presentation; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and editing and proofreading techniques; school district goals, organization, and operation; and operation of a computer and assigned software. 
Ability to: Communicate effectively in written form utilizing a journalistic and technical writing style; compose and type correspondence from general instructions and guidelines; gather, analyze, evaluate, and interpret information and data; write reports, news releases, and related data in a creative, clear, concise manner for broad public appeal as well as specialized audiences; establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of news media, district employees, and community representatives; relate effectively to a diverse population; proficiently use current technology for performance of duties including graphics design and publication/print software; operate a computer, cameras, and video recorders; articulate district positions, policies, and procedures; prepare and deliver effective oral presentations; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information; organize, edit, and lay out publications; work independently on assignments and meet schedules and timelines with little direction; multi-task and complete work with many interruptions under pressure and work with priorities and deadlines subject to frequent change.
