Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of Student Support Services or designee, within the Student Services Division, is responsible for coordinating districtwide functions for the Child Welfare and Attendance Department.
Examples of Duties
- Assists in enforcing compulsory education laws with intervention to ensure continuing enrollment of students
- Receives required reports of truancy and supervises appropriate follow-up
- Provides continuous source to site administration in immediate and long-term handling of student attendance and welfare matters
- Utilizes skill of community and outside consultants with professional development for district and school staff in student welfare and attendance services
- Reviews, studies, collaborates, and reports on attendance problems and school practices
- Analyzes suspension, expulsion, and other school severance data for preventive planning and reporting
- Responsible for review of each school pupil personnel expulsion case file and assisting where necessary
- Responsible for functioning as administrative hearing panel chairman for expulsion hearings and monitors the necessary timelines
- Responsible for records compilation of discipline matters, including but not limited to suspension and corporal punishment
- Assists site administration and school staffs in monitoring absences and provides support in dealing with underlying causes
- Provides service in the community to locate student non-attenders of compulsory school age
- Assists site administration and school staffs in developing systems and forms for improving procedures and practices relating to student attendance and welfare, including Student Attendance Review Team (SART) process
- Assists in seeking appropriate professional aid and placement for students whose needs are beyond the scope of school services
- Assists school staffs in working with individual cases under the jurisdiction of the Probation Department, the Department of Social Services, and other agencies
- Coordinates activities of school personnel and law enforcement agencies that deal with juvenile problems
- Makes investigative studies and reports as requested by the district administration
- Assists with campus supervision as requested; represents the District in Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) meetings and other attendance hearings
- Coordinates Alternative Governance Council
- Oversees LCAP programs as assigned
- Responsible for collaboratively developing a Student Study Team process and interventions to address Multi-Tiered Systems of Support on attendance and behavior
- Responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing a district-wide process to continuously improve attendance rates and chronic absenteeism
- Coordinates dropout recovery and prevention activities
- Supervises Home and Hospital programming for general education students
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Completion of a Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, possession of a valid credential, authorizing service as an administrator.
Experience: Two (2) years of successful teaching experience and/or administrative experience in dealing with student services or understanding of laws related to student welfare and attendance matters. Preferred experience as a site administrator.

Working Conditions: Indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard and grounds. Exposure to: student and playground noise, communicable diseases, unruly students, air conditioning, seasonal temperatures, dust, wind, pesticides and possible smog.
