Job Summary

Hands-On Science Camp is a dynamic 8-week summer program. Classes are offered to youth from prek-8th grade in all major sciences. The Summer Camp Instructor is responsible for the delivery of high quality, interactive science education programs for camp groups at the California Science Center. These are temporary full-time summer positions. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES *Responsible for the delivery of educational summer camp programs to groups of preschool, elementary and secondary aged children. *Develop hands-on science lessons for camp programs. *Organize curriculum and class plans on a daily basis. *Theme and maintain classroom to represent curriculum. *Responsible for daily administrative and operational tasks. *Assist in the training and developing summer camp assistants and interns. *Organize and prepare materials for use in camp programs. *Sort consumable and non-consumable supplies for camp programs. *Lead on and off site program field trips. *Perform other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • College degree in science and education or related field.
  • Experience with curriculum development and/ or revision.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in teaching or working with the public in a classroom/informal educational setting/public setting.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent customer service skills and team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Chinese, or Korean desired.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and organize supplies that may weigh up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
