BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, perform a variety of clerical library duties involved in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance and distribution of books, textbooks and other library materials; assist students in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment.

Perform a variety of clerical library duties involved in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance and distribution of books, textbooks and other library materials; process new books and instructional materials; participate in the cataloging of books and instructional materials.
Assist students in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment; respond to inquiries and provide information to students and teachers; assist students in researching instructional materials for classroom use; assist teachers with researching materials as directed.
Circulate library materials; check library materials in and out to students and staff using an assigned computerized system and bar codes; shelve returned books and materials; check audio-visual equipment in and out to staff as directed.
Perform various clerical duties related to assigned activities such as compiling and duplicating materials, preparing requisitions, laminating documents, answering phones, scheduling library activities and preparing correspondence.
Monitor inventory levels of textbooks, instructional materials and other library supplies; assist in ordering textbooks and other materials as directed; maintain and perform minor repairs on books as needed; arrange for equipment repairs as necessary.
Input, process and receive library material and textbook orders; prepare materials for introduction into the library materials collection; prepare labels; affix identification and bar-code labels to materials; input related information into assigned computer system.
Operate a variety of office and library equipment including a copier, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software.
Communicate with District personnel, students and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
Organize and prepare library displays, decorations and bulletin boards; maintain the library in a neat and orderly condition; assist in maintaining appropriate student behavior in the library.
Maintain routine records related to inventory, textbooks, library materials and assigned activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
Participate in book fairs and other special events in the library.

INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school, or equivalent AND one year (1) of general clerical or library experience AND two (2) years of study (48 units) from a recognized college or university, or possession of an Associate's degree OR meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
