Requirements / Qualifications
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional elementary school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the elementary level. Preference given to bilingual speakers, and expertise in vital programs within individual schools including, but not limited to, STEAM, Montessori, Dual Immersion, Waldorf, etc. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hold a valid Administrative Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required.

Sacramento City Unified seeks a dynamic principal to lead Camellia Basic Elementary for the 2022-2023 academic year and beyond.
Camellia Basic Elementary School is a California Distinguished School with a focus on providing an academic prep program that develops excellence through an emphasis on the skills for English language arts (reading and writing), and math. Students also develop lifelong skills by participating in: Art, music through songs and literacy in grades K-1, physical education, and the sciences through a targeted approach in grades 4-6, with a purposeful collaboration amongst those grade levels.
Camellia students exceed district and state averages on state and national achievement tests. Camellia’s mission is to prepare outstanding students for their middle and high school years and to be career and college ready. Through Camellia’s structured program and fidelity to a Classroom Meeting model, students develop the essential qualities of cooperation, responsibility, courage, and self-esteem by stressing excellence in class work, homework, and citizenship.
Camellia’s student body demographics are: 59% Asian, 24% Hispanic/Latino, 5% African American, 3% Filipino, 3% Pacific Islander, and 3% White. Additionally, 85% of students are from socioeconomically disadvantaged households, 30% are English Learners, and 10% receive Special Education Services.
Camellia’s new principal will need to continue and build upon the work of supporting and addressing mid-range student performance, progress of ELD and special education students and maintain a positive, caring, and equity based school climate that is responsive to the diverse needs of the school community.
