Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) serves our county’s most vulnerable students, and supports school leaders, teachers, and students across the county. We support nearly 780 schools and more than 500,000 students, including the 2,020 children we educate each year through our Juvenile Court and Community Schools. SDCOE provides a variety of services for the 42 school districts, 131 charter schools, and five community college districts in the county. SDCOE is recruiting to fill one (1) full-time vacancy for a Coordinator, Special Education within the South County SELPA Department of the Student Services and Program Services Division. The Coordinator, Special Education is responsible for facilitating and planning various Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and countywide activities; coordinating assigned special education program components and related activities; and serving as a resource to member districts and others. The South County SELPA coordinates special education program development and student placements for more than 11,000 students from birth through age 22. We operate in the southern region of San Diego County and member districts include the elementary and high school districts of Coronado, Chula Vista, National, San Ysidro, South Bay, Sweetwater and the San Diego County of Office programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Valid Administrative Services Credential* issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Valid Education Specialist (M/M or M/S), Special Education Credential, Pupil Personnel Services, or Clinical/Rehabilitative credential, or equivalent document* issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Valid Driver License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles *Note: Valid California credentials are a requirement at time of hire. If you do not possess the required California credentials, you may go to the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing website https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/out-of-state-app for details on meeting California’s requirements. Experience: At least five (5) years professional level experience in the field of special education or related field including increasing responsibility in administration within special education settings; and Education: Masters degree in education, education leadership, school psychology, or closely related area; or Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in education or related field; and at least five years (5) of professional level experience in special education or related field, including increasing responsibility in administration within special education setting.
