Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the District EL Administrator, the EL Assistant will support with the identification, assessment, reclassification, and instruction of limited English speaking students.The EL Assistant will serve as the liaison and support between the Instruction Department and school site EL programs and services. The assistant will provide support services to ensure that the progress of reclassified students is monitored per state guidelines and that EL aides at the site level are effectively providing language acquisition support in the classroom. The EL Assistant will implement communications systems to facilitate collaboration between teachers and instructional aides. The ELL assistant will monitor that state and federal required documents are complete and filed appropriately and communicate with the District EL Administrator on school language development programs. The assistant will perform other duties directly related to this job description.

Requirements / Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Three years experience in ELL language fluency testing and Title III compliance requirements or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and one of the following: 1) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units); 2) obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness
