DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Counselor, through counseling and directly related activities, seeks to facilitate individual students toward learning, academic success and the development of acceptable behavior patterns thus helping students have a successful school experience.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To develop a systematic approach for diagnosis, prescription, and follow-through treatment for students demonstrating academic and/or behavioral deficits. Be responsible for mobilizing the resources of the school, district and community to assist students to have a successful academic experience. To use skills to help students become aware of themselves and their environment and to find the optimum relationship between the two. To provide individual and group counseling. To confer with parents. To develop strategies with all appropriate personnel to assist students evidencing apparently insoluble difficulties. To help identify students for special programs. To plan and execute necessary research. To conduct in-service training for teachers. To evaluate the counseling program. To refer students and/or parents to out-of-school agencies when appropriate.
CREDENTIAL:
Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Teaching experience, work experience outside of education is desirable.
