Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program. Monday and Wednesday 6:00pm – 9:30pm (7 hours a week) held on the San Mateo Adult School campus.. Access to computer, printer, email and internet required.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: CA Teaching Credential with a health science designation (i.e. Health Science and Medical Technology) Credential or an applicable Certificate of Clearance, that can trigger the appropriate Preliminary Authorization required. Minimum of 1 years’ experience as RN or LVN or Medical Assistant; A nationally recognized certification is preferred, but not required. Teaching, training, public speaking experience preferred, but not required. A strong desire to train and mentor the next generation of Medical Assistants. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to teaching theory and labs, motivates and inspires students. Evaluates student progress through observation and testing, and maintains accurate and timely records of attendance and grades. Works within the framework of curriculum provided and is responsible for the overall success of the program. Successfully be able to: • Identify students who are having difficulty with the material and provide a different learning approach to help them better comprehend the material • Demonstrate clinical skills and train the students in skills (i.e. injections, phlebotomy, ekg, vitals) required to be a clinical medical assistant. • Teach safety, privacy, emergency procedures, and how to respond to different patient behaviors. • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the implementation of learning objectives • Learn new technology and implement its use within a reasonable amount of time Access to computer, printer, email and internet.

Students will learn to obtain patient vital signs, assist with minor medical procedures, perform simple laboratory tests, give injections, perform venipuncture (phlebotomy), administer medications and more TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENT: Access to laptop or desktop computer, printer, email and internet required. Laptop or desktop computer must meet Zoom’s minimum operating requirements.
