SUMMARY:
In charge of curriculum and instruction for Pechanga Indian Reservation Preschool program and interactive play for Mommy & Me parents and students. Provide an instructional program teaching students by utilizing and incorporating the Pechanga Tribe’s education curriculum, policies, and the Tribe’s Luiseño language program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach, instruct, and nurture infants through preschool children ages 4 and younger.
• Attain knowledge of the Luiseño language and apply with students throughout daily classroom activities and lessons.
• Develop and implement a cultural awareness program utilizing provided Luiseño language materials.
• Teach basic skills, such as color, shape, number and letter recognition and social skills.
• Implement age appropriate art and music activities.
• Provide a variety of planned learning experiences using a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
• Establish and maintain. a system of student evaluation and assessment with guidelines approved and adopted by the school board.
• Create a physically safe and stimulating environment that is age appropriate to promote physical, mental and social development where children play, talk, sing, explore, and read and write.
• Provide the children opportunities to develop and enhance their own strengths and abilities.
• Observe and evaluate children’s performance, behavior, social development and physical health.
• Develop and address student’s physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth.
• Seek good student-teacher and student-student interaction.
• Communicate with children's parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues.
• Keep current with the best teaching practices in the field of child development and language immersion techniques. Attend professional meetings, education conferences, and teacher training, as authorized, in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Must adhere to all policies and procedures of the Chámmakilawish School and Pechanga Tribal Government.
The list of duties and responsibilities above is not an exhaustive list. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, the employee will be required to perform other job-related duties, as assigned, that are consistent with the employee’s job position and qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in education or other related field from an accredited institution required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development preferred.
• Required two- five (2-5) years minimum experience working with children.
• Successful completion of 12 units in Early Childhood Development classes required.
• Must be able to understand and implement the use of educational software.
• Desire and willingness to learn and teach the Luiseño language and culture.
• Certified in child and infant CPR.
• Knowledge of basic first aid.
• Clean background check
• This position must comply with the Pechanga Tribal Government’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident or injury, and random testing.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation.
