MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches courses in social studies, history, geography, American government, political science, or humanities to secondary pupils using appropriate learning materials.

Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.

Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.

Makes material from current magazines, newspapers, television programs, etc., available to pupils; plans and guides discussions of current social, political, and economic problems against background of geographical environment and history of area being studied.

Develops an understanding of the contributions of minority racial, religious, and political groups to American culture, and the role of minorities in our present day world.

Develops knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations and their influence on personal freedom, education, and living standards of the people in those nations.

Encourages pupils to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems.

Creates (with assistance of pupils if desired) interest centers and displays of material to enhance learning.

Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.

Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance. Education Code 52720.

Monitors classroom environment to ensure clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.

Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of the class session.

- Valid California Single Subject Credential: Social Science - English Learner Authorization

Attached credential copy must include DETAILED credential information including the document number, authorization code, authorization description, issue date and expiration date. Such copies can be obtained using the link provided to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website through the “Secured Search” option. “SUITABLE FOR FRAMING” VERSIONS AND EXPIRED COPIES OF YOUR CREDENTIAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  • Credential Copy (DETAILED – NON EXPIRED copy from CTC website OR a credential status letter from your University with an anticipated date of completion OR proof of credential application. PLEASE NOTE: Credential must post by July 1, 2022)
