The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program (FYSCP) was established in 1999 to address and support the educational needs of foster youth. FYSCP is funded through Federal, State, and private funding. The mission of Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program is to provide Orange County foster youth with the resources needed to achieve their maximum educational and vocational potential. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to serve as Educational Liaison. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between schools, Social Services Agency, and the Probation Department to ensure that the academic needs of foster youth are met. This position will recommend and assist in the implementation of goals, objectives, and strategic plan; establish schedules and methods for providing specialized services; manage a caseload of approximately 300 foster youth; act as a liaison for foster youth regarding educational issues; gather and assess foster youth’s educational records and credits and provide support to the Foster Youth Services Program. The person selected will monitor youth’s progress toward graduation requirements as well as educational and/or vocational goals; identify and implement strategies to improve student learning and attendance. This position is in the Alternative Education Division and will be located at: Orange County Social Services Agency, Children Family Services, 800 N. Eckhoff Street, Orange, CA 92868. Contract ends 6/30/24.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Two (2) years of experience working with foster youth and/or at-risk youth on educational planning and/or case management. • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related field,(Masters Degree or Pupil Personnel experience preferred).
