LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

CLASS TITLE:  PRINT SHOP TECHNICIAN 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform technical work in the operation of offset duplicating machines and other equipment in the reproduction of typewritten and graphic materials used by the District and schools.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 

Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class.

Perform technical work in the operation of offset duplicating machines and other equipment for the reproduction of typewritten and graphic materials used by the District and schools; prioritize and schedule work; forward completed work to appropriate District site. E

Adjust paper feed and guides for different weights and sizes of stock. E 

Regulate ink and water flow; mix and weigh inks. E 

Make adjustments to machines and maintain machines in proper working condition; clean and preserve roller and cylinders; identify and report major malfunctions. E 

Perform camera and layout work; shoot and develop negatives and half-tones; calculate reductions and enlargements; burn and develop metal plates and perform other related camera work. E 

Operate and maintain other equipment including a collator, stitcher, folder, drill, padding equipment, paper cutter, electrostatic copier, and other equipment as assigned; learn to operate a computer and assigned software systems. E 

Maintain records related to production; prepare data for invoices. E 

Notify appropriate personnel of supplies needed.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Operation and maintenance of offset duplicating machines and related auxiliary equipment.

Proper operation of bindery equipment.

Weights, size, texture and types of paper.

Layout, paste-up and design techniques.

Technical aspects of field of specialty.

 

ABILITY TO:

Perform technical work in the operation of offset duplicating machines and other equipment.

Prioritize and schedule work.

Perform camera and layout work.

Maintain equipment in proper working condition.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Work cooperatively with others.

Maintain records of work performed.

Learn to operate a computer and assigned software.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and increasingly responsible experience operating offset press equipment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor environment.

Noise and fumes from equipment operation. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and assigned equipment.

Lifting heavy objects.

Standing for extended periods of time.

Pushing or pulling heavy objects.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

HAZARDS:

ABILITY TO: Perform technical work in the operation of offset duplicating machines and other equipment. Prioritize and schedule work. Perform camera and layout work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATES Increasingly responsible experience operating offset press equipment.The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Cost of the exam will be born by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of the interview.
