The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2020-2021 Academic Year, we currently enroll over 10,100 students in which 73% identify as Latinx, 5% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 16% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. Reedley College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Reporting to the Director, Student Success at Reedley College, The Counselor will cover a full range of general counseling responsibilities, which include the following:
• Provide comprehensive counseling services to 7th - 12th grade students, including academic, career, personal and life transitions, and counseling on an appointment and walk-in basis;
• Responsible for student outreach and recruitment activities for Educational Talent
Search (ETS);
• Provide parent workshops on ETS program services and activities;
• Oversee after school tutorial programs;
• Assist in the organization and implementation of orientation, counseling and follow-up
services to students;
• Assist students with major selection, development of 4-Year Student Educational Plans
for Secondary Education, student education plans (SEPs) for graduating seniors,
aligned with their educational goals and careers;
• Assist with and collaborate in developing programs and student support services with
an emphasis on counseling services that will improve student retention, academic
achievement, while increasing student college enrollment and completion rates;
• Participate in meetings, conferences, trainings, and other professional development
activities to maintain the expertise required to provide accurate and reliable information and
support to ETS students;
• Support the planning and implementation of matriculation processes which may include
participation in Registration-To-Go (RTG) college efforts with feeder high schools and other
local agency partners;
• Develop and teach counseling courses such as career planning, personal development,
academic success, financial aid guidance, and college introduction;
• Communicate effectively with students and staff at partnership middle and high schools;
• Develop and/or utilize technologies for classroom presentations;
• Conduct Satisfactory Academic Progress and Financial Aid Workshops;
• Develop and maintain counseling notes in the college's electronic record-keeping software,
in a timely and effective manner;
• Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
• Position is located at partnership middle school and/or high schools. Work hours may include
evening and/or weekends and on-line as needed;
• Serve on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
• Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
• Assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices; AND
• Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR
• A valid California Community College Credential; OR
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional and relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
• Related work and professional experience;
• Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
• Extent of counseling experience at a middle school or high school;
• Extent development of 4-Year Student Educational Plans for Secondary Education;
• Extent of working with parents/guardians of middle and high school students;
• Extent of cross-cultural counseling experience, demonstrated experience working with
multicultural/diversity counseling issues;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students and staff;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently;
• Knowledge of computer applications and technology related to career and counseling
functions;
• Extent of professional experience providing a broad array of high school and
community college counseling services;
• Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently (one position).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment:
177-181 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $60,678 – $93,414 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

Reedley College is located in the central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as “The World’s Fruit Basket,” Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College and has affected many lives since then. In its 95 years, Reedley College has developed into a crucial component of higher education in the central San Joaquin Valley, offering over 153 degrees and certificates in 37 areas of study taught by approximately 140 full-time faculty and 225 part-time faculty.
