POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, the job of Data/Telecommunication technician is done for the purpose(s) of performing a variety of technical tasks related to wide area and telecommunication networks, PBX (Private Branch Exchange),Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) systems and related hardware and software; to plan, configure, install the telecommunications and teleprocessing equipment and infrastructure; provide related technical support to users and to perform other job related work as required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Two years of successful responsible experience in telecommunications, microcomputers or other job related experience that would demonstrate appropriate job training, preparation and utilization of skills, knowledge and ability requirements described above. REQUIRED EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of post high school education/training in data processing, computer science or related field. One year of additional qualifying experience beyond the minimum may be substituted for the one year of required education. Appropriate professional certification preferred – examples include but are not limited to telecommunications or PBX, Convergent Technician Professional (CTP) and VOIP certification. Testing is tentatively scheduled to take place on 5/11/22.
