Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or counselor, perform student support activities to enhance and reinforce behavioral and social skills to students; report sensitive issues; assist students with refusal skills related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs ; assist students with issues related to bullying, low self-esteem, anger management, decision making, and other matters which prevent full educational potential; provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for staff and students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: One year of experience working with children in an organized setting. KNOWLEDGE OF: Child development principles and practices. Basic methods used in motivating, assisting and building resilience in students. Student behavior and characteristics. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Oral and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Research-based class lessons. Record-keeping and filing techniques. Basic computer skills.

This position is a 15 hour/week position that provides support at elementary schools. The current vacancy is at Design 39. This is not a benefited position. Classified staff working in this job classification who have a valid and current CA teaching credential, will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.
