Job Summary

Job Summary

This position will be assigned to the Special Education Department: Under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Education, plans, organizes, coordinates, and monitors the Santa Cruz County Office of Education' s behavioral curriculum and instructional program to ensure that all services respond to the needs of students with Autism and Moderate to Severe Handicapping conditions in relation to their behavior and social skills. The Behavior Analyst will be assigned to areas of specialized expertise within Special Education regional programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Speech Therapy, or related Behavioral Science required; Master' s Degree is required. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students diagnosed within the autism spectrum implementing behavioral-based programming or with an Emotionally Disturbed disability. Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), or TEACCH instructional strategies and Evidence Based Practices in the area of Autism and other areas of disability is preferred. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and appropriate vehicle operation insurance. Possession of CPR and first aid certificate. Possession of a valid Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Certification required. In order to maintain BCBA certification, individuals are required to comply with the BACB’s ethical requirements and recertify every 2 to 3 years. Application Procedures: Applicants must submit a completed application and are encouraged to attach a résumé and supporting documents (copies of licenses and certificates) to the application material. Qualified applicants will be invited to an oral examination covering the knowledge and skills required. An eligibility list will be established and the top three ranks of candidates will be interviewed for final consideration and appointment. The eligibility list established will remain in effect for a period of six (6) months unless it no longer exists due to an insufficient number of available candidates. If an applicant needs reasonable accommodation, we must be informed prior to the administration of the test.

Each plan may have an employee premium contribution amount for which the employee can utilize a tax sheltered Section 125 Plan. Retirement benefits are accrued through the Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS). CalPERS members are required to pay their portion of the retirement plan. The employee also receives long-term disability insurance and life insurance.
