Job Summary
Overview: The Dean of Students Office comprises two deans that work cooperatively to support student growth and development in Cathedral Catholic’s four core values of character, faith, knowledge and responsibility. The Deans of Students work with the school community in carrying out the school’s academic and behavior programs. As professional educators, the Deans of Students understand and respond to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population. The Deans of Students provide proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support every student’s academic achievement and spiritual, personal and social development. The Deans of Students work cooperatively with the administrative team, counselors, teachers, nurse, staff, students and parents towards a positive and safe school environment.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Skills/Qualifications: * Master’s degree is required; an administrative credential (or in progress of obtaining an administrative credential or its equivalent from a Catholic university) is required; Master’s degree in related field of school leadership is preferred * Five years of successful teaching/counseling experience (preferably in a Catholic school) * Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge and understanding in building rapport and trust with students, families, employees and communities of diverse backgrounds * Demonstrated leadership in building a culturally responsive school community * Knowledge of current trends relating to drugs, mental health, diversity, equity and restorative practices * Prior experience developing and implementing programming for students related to restorative practices is preferred Who You Are: * A practicing Catholic or a person that can embrace a leadership position within a faith-filled environment * Exceptional emotional intelligence. What You Will Do:
* Help build a school environment of unity, harmony, cooperation and high morale through tact, helpfulness, respect and a recognition of individual difference and the special abilities and strengths of each student
* Support and meet with students, parents and teachers in the restorative process
* Work with campus community on restorative practices/methodologies and provide professional development as necessary
* Support student extra/co-curricular activities and events
* Conduct training for teachers in restorative discipline
* Lead restorative circles
* Co-chair the Student Evaluation Team (SET) with the Dean of Counseling and Wellness
* Oversee the school’s Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program, including opt-in drug testing
* Oversee daily attendance procedures and enforcement of policies
* Conduct interventions through restorative discipline for attendance concerns
* Review and enforce discipline policies and procedures
* Maintain discipline records
* Work with teachers on classroom management and provide professional development as necessary
* Recommend disciplinary dismissal of students to the principal in consultation with the administrative team
* Coordinate emergency procedures and drills
* Coordinate and oversee parking procedures and the Start Smart program
* Create supervision assignments during the school day
* Attend weekly administrative meetings and participates in walkthroughs
* Evaluate teachers as needed
* Supervise and evaluate the school nurse, the assistant to the school nurse, the director of associated student body, director of security and two administrative assistants
* Other duties as assigned
* Provide for the supervision of students at student body events (at least one dean will be present to support student behavior and adult supervision), which traditionally include:
-Fall: grade-level dances, homecoming football game and dance, Holy Bowl festivities and game
-Winter: Winter Formal
-Spring: Senior Boat Dance, Prom
*Provide for the planning and organization of:
-Sophomore, junior and senior orientation days
-Faculty professional development opportunities
-Emergency drills and emergency response
