CLASSIFICATION: Certificated SALARY RANGE: Certificated Salary Schedule WORK YEAR: School Year DEFINITION Under the direction of the Superintendent, to provide psychological and resource services as assigned to direct service to district school sites, including consultation, assessment and brief counseling. SUPERVISOR Director of Special Projects/Student Services QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Essential Duties: •Consults with the appropriate significant adults in the child’s environment in the planning of educational and therapeutic programs. •Recommends appropriate educational and psychological remediation through the use of psychological tests. •Interprets and analyzes the assessment results with regard to the intellectual, academic, social, emotional and behavioral development and the implications these results have for the instructional program. •Prepares written assessment reports for each student evaluated. •Consultation may include teachers, instructional aides, administrators, parents and agency personnel such as private physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, probation officers, mental health professionals and others as appropriate. •Makes classroom observations. •Provides parent education and support services. •Assists in establishing guidelines as mandated by Federal and State programs. •Provides staff and program development to teachers and administrators with their specific concerns regarding application of State and Federal guidelines, classroom management and instructional planning to meet the specific needs of the pupils. •Participates in the development of school services promoting positive mental health and effective environments for learning. •Assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of specific phases of the educational programs. •Services as a resource person in such areas as guidance, curriculum, child development and tests and measurements. •Serves as a member of the School Study Team (SST) and Child Study Team (CST). •Attends staff and committee meetings and State conferences when appropriate. •Reviews current literature and research in Psychology •Assists in planning research projects for the improvement of educational programs for children and complies with district Board Policies and Administrative Regulations. Other Duties: •Participates in community as a liaison by speaking to parents and civic groups. •Performs other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone and business machines (including typewriter, computer, calculator); vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance and on the telephone; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school site-to-site), drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds; physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience •Masters Degree from an accredited college or university •California credential authorizing performance of psychological services •Demonstrates responsible experience in a psychological position within a public school environment. Ability to •Possess an appropriate California operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and be insurable •Understand, prevent, solve problems and overcome difficulties •Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public •Communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS •Ability to communicate in manually coded English (SEE an/or Sign English)
