General Description

 

Under the direction of the Academic Dean, the Senior Instructional Specialist/Lead Coordinator for the Math Lab will assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Math Lab, supervise, train, and assess tutors; tutor incoming students according to Tutorial Center/Math Lab policy, pedagogy and best practices and provide marketing and outreach for the Math Lab. The individual hired for this position will be responsible for coordinating the Math Labs at each of the District's campuses.

 

This position is assigned to the Visalia, Tulare, and Hanford campuses, Full-Time

 

Monday - Thursday 8:45 a.m. - 5:45 p.m., Friday 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., 12-months.

 

Initial placement is at $64,563.

Job Duties

Job duties of the Senior Instructional Specialist, Lead Coordinator - Math Lab:

 

• Assist in the planning, coordination and direction of the day-to-day activities of the Math Labs throughout the District; participate in measuring and assessing Math Lab services.

• Provide work direction and supervision to student tutors; train tutors on Tutorial Center/Math Lab policies, pedagogy and practices; monitor their attendance.

• Provide support for Tutorial Centers in Tulare and Hanford.

• Tutor incoming students; provide appropriate and effective feedback to students about their work.

• Establish data collection and analysis systems to ensure accurate data collection; compile, prepare and tabulate statistics for a variety of reports related to Math Lab services and activities.

• Assist in guiding faculty, staff, and tutors in best practices for Math Lab services.

• Work with faculty and programs across the disciplines and campuses to better serve students math needs.

• Develop, create and produce internal communication such as newsletters, flyers, pamphlets and brochures for distributions to campus community.

• Plan and coordinate marketing and outreach services for the Math Lab throughout the District.

• Plan, monitor and maintain budget; order; perform clerical duties, including maintaining inventory and supply records, and collecting timesheets from student tutors for Payroll processing.

• Attend staff meetings and participate in other districts committees as requested.

• Attend professional development opportunities as available.

• Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

 

Any combination equivalent to:

 

• Bachelor's degree in the math field AND

• Two years of experience working in a tutorial or teaching setting.

 

Desirable Qualification

 

• Master's degree in mathematics or a related field is highly desired.

• Math and basic tutorial techniques for Community College students.

• Record-keeping techniques.

• Operation, preparation and maintenance of an instructional laboratory.

• Oral and written communication skills.

• Curriculum, goals and objectives of the department.

• Methods and procedures of operating electronic computers and peripheral equipment.

• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

• Strategies to assist student learning math.

 

Ability to:

 

• Work with students of varying academic abilities.

• Operate and demonstrate the use of computer equipment.

• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; work assertively and cooperatively with faculty, staff and students

• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

• Work independently with little direction.

• Operate computers and peripheral equipment properly and efficiently.

• Train and provide work direction to others.

• Assign and review the work of others.
