MONROVIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TITLE: INDEPENDENT STUDY TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Credential EL Certification Required JOB GOAL: Provide students enrolled in Independent Study with an educational program based on a student's needs and interests, and consistent with the District's goal of academic excellence ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Articulates the educational philosophy guiding the program to students and their parents; ensures student and parent understanding of the program's goals and objectives. • Is knowledgeable about rules, regulations and statutes pertinent to the Independent Study Program • Completes forms and reports relative to the program. • Meets with students enrolled in the program for the purposes of guiding, encouraging and evaluating progress. • Works with students individually or in small groups, devising educational experiences that will lead to achievement of the students’ goals. • Serves as a resource to students pursuing individual learning programs. • Uses a variety of instructional strategies and materials so that students achieve stated objectives. • Conferences with students and parents for conferences during or outside the regular instructional day when reasonably requested. • Assists in designing curriculum for use in the Independent Study Program. • Assists with proficiency testing and record keeping. • Maintains consistent communication and cooperative relationships with schools, social agencies and student families. • Performs other duties as assigned.
