Job Description – Academic Coordinator

 

Basic Description:  The Academic Coordinator will be assigned the comprehensive high school level.  This person will supervise, direct, coordinate and evaluate a wide range of services, special programs, academic programs, extra-curricular activities and assume other duties as assigned.  This position will work under the supervision of the principal or designee.  Services will be provided individually or in groups and in collaboration with teachers.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Guidance services for individuals or groups in the following areas:

  • Conduct student career interest surveys;
  • Provide classroom instruction in goal setting and post-secondary planning;
  • Supervise and coordinate delivery of college and career guidance information;
  • Collaborative building of Four-year Plan with student and parent;
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences.

 Achievement services for individuals or groups:

  • Collect and analyze data to help guide student achievement and to help evaluate  program;
  •     Assist staff with curriculum development;
    • Develop academic support programs;
    • Coordinate and assist in administering tests;
    • Conduct parent workshops.

 Discipline services include the handling of:

  • Attendance or non-attendance issues;
  • Discipline referrals;
  • Referrals to other educational alternatives or other educational agencies;
  • Parent conferences.

 Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for sharing administrative supervision of extra curricular activities and daily supervision of the campus;
  • Attend school, community and outside agency  meetings as directed;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation
  • Physical dexterity, with ability to operate computer keyboard and other office machines.
  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push, pull up to five pounds on a regular basis and up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to reach in all directions.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Pupil Personnel Services  Credential
  • Work experience in a comprehensive high school
  • Computer literacy

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of California Education Code
  • Knowledge of special programs, guidance, scheduling and restructuring
  • Three years of high school classroom teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of secondary curriculum
  • Recent successful experience as Instructional Leader
  • Experience facilitating groups/decision making processes
  • Knowledge of district and site policies and procedures relating to staff, students and parents
  • Ability to deal with high stress situations in a calm and tactful manner
  • Ability to maintain effective communications and a cooperative working relationship with staff, students and parents
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to effectively meet established deadlines and schedules
