SUMMARY:

Teaches pre-school children academic, social, and motor skills. Responsible for the supervision and planning of activities for children based on their needs and interests and helps integrate program goals and objectives that will stimulate the children’s learning experiences.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum of 12 ECE units in child development required; 24 or more ECE units strongly preferred. California teacher certification-Associate, Teacher, Master Teacher a plus. Experience working with children in a pre-school setting.  Must be able to relate professionally with children, parents, and staff. CPR and First Aid Certification a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following:

1)     Plans and implements daily activities for the classroom according to the children’s needs and within Fairmont’s overall guidelines.

2)     Promotes Fairmont’s philosophy and actively works to develop a positive working environment among children, teachers, administrators, and support staff.

3)     Plans, writes, and implements weekly lesson plans in adherence to Fairmont’s guidelines and in order to facilitate classroom continuity in teachers’ absence.

4)     Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.

5)     Utilizes Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) to post monthly newsletters and online report cards, as well as communicate with parents.  Also posts weekly lesson plans for Directors to access.

6)     P-4 Teacher: Assesses students 3 times per year with Children’s Progress, and uses the testing data to meet individual student learning needs.  The information is also shared with parents, as are the recommended activities for improving student learning/development.

7)     Seeks out and implements changes in scheduling and planning that will enhance individual student learning, facilitate transitions times, and ensures more time on-task.

8)     Organizes and maintains a safe, disciplined, yet stimulating academic classroom environment.

9)     Responsible for the reporting any abnormal symptoms and/or behaviors observed in the classroom, including possible evidence of abuse, neglect, injuries, or illness.

10)  Responsible to Campus Director for taking directions and communicating needs.  Keeps Campus Director informed of children who need special attention and for behavior problems.

11)  Assures safety standards are taught and implemented.  Reports any deviations to the Campus Director, Assistant Director or the Safety Officer.

12)  Maintains classroom supplies in a safe, neat and orderly condition; keeps appropriate staff apprised of safety needs, classroom equipment, and supplies.

13)  Provides a nurturing environment, which supports the individual development of each child.

14)  Communicates via phone, note, or in-person in a positive, professional, timely manner with parents and staff.

15)  Completes progress reports each trimester.

16)  Supports and attends orientation programs, Parent Night, Open House, and any other campus function deemed appropriate by the Director.

17)  Attends and constructively participates in staff meetings and workshops and shows evidence of follow through in classroom application.

18)  Understands and is knowledgeable of all of Fairmont’s policies, procedures, and philosophies, including emergency, fire, and earthquake procedures; and conveys, where appropriate, such information to the children.

19)  Sets a good example for the children by arriving on time, dressing professionally, and planning creative and productive lessons.

20)  Takes daily attendance and follows all reporting procedures.

21)  Carries on other duties as directed by the Director or Assistant Director.

22)  Facilitate and inspire student learning in and through the use of technology by designing learning opportunities that incorporate age-appropriate technology skills, using technology to assist with teaching and learning, modeling the effective use of technology.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Primarily an office/classroom position.  May require significant degree of intermittent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and stretching.  May require lifting of up to 30 lbs.
