Job Description

Custodian

DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Site Administrator, Head Custodian and/or Designee, cleans and maintains the buildings and other assigned areas of school facilities in a clean, orderly and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; and other related work as assigned.

DUTIES
Raises and lowers flags; prepares school for opening and closing; checks all points for security; sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts, cleans walls, doors, window sills, windows and furniture. Empties waste containers and disposes of rubbish; cleans restrooms thoroughly; maintains towel and tissue dispensers; arranges tables in cafeteria for serving; cleans kitchen; assists cooks with supplies and heavy containers and handles storage of food shipments; prepares athletic field for sports activities; mows, waters, and fertilizes lawns as required; cars for shrubs, trees, or other landscaping; shampoos carpets, strips and waxes floors; maintains equipment used in course of work; performs other custodial work as required to maintain a standard operational procedure. Moves furniture and equipment for special events, replaces lights, adjusts desks and tables, cleans and replaces furnace filters, and makes other minor non-technical repairs; effectively communicates problems that arise to the immediate supervisor; may include driving to pick up supplies and/or equipment; performs other duties which reasonably relate to the above.

May assist in performing other related maintenance and operations duties as assigned by the Site Administrator, Head Custodian, Maintenance & Operations Manager Perform other duties which reasonably relate to the position

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 High school dIploma or general education degree (GED); Previous experience performing duties similar to those listed above preferred.

Signing Bonus for New Hires during the 2021/22 School Year: For the 2021/22 school year, the District will offer a $500 signing bonus to all newly hired unit members during the 2021/22 school year. Unit members will be paid $250, in their first 2021/22 paycheck. The remaining $250 will be paid in December 2022, if the unit member is still in active paid status and has not submitted a resignation at the time of payroll submission. New hire is defined, as someone not currently employed in a permanent position.
