Purpose Statement: The Resident Dorm Supervisor is responsible for the safe and effective operation of their dorm floor managing the students and facilities, setting the tone for the dorm related to both the residential faculty and the students. The Resident Dorm Supervisor helps students and parents adjust to residential life’s complicated dynamics, being present and available for students. The Resident Dorm Supervisor is expected to live on campus and be a visible and active member of the school community. San Domenico School has approximately 130 students living on campus together with another eight to ten members of the residential staff. Other members of the residential staff live off-campus. Responsibilities of a Resident Dorm Supervisor: Works closely with resident faculty, ensuring regular communication with boarding parents and often communicating directly with parents. Regarding student matters and concerns, the dorm supervisor also communicates regularly with the Upper School Associate Director and Director of Residential Life, school administrators, health center staff, and counselor. Takes part in the selection team to choose prefects each year. They also help manage the prefects in their dormitories and assist in their orientation and continued training. Assists in the campus-wide and dormitory orientation of new students with the other dorm parents’ and prefects’ assistance. Attends/assists with Community Curriculum/Programming Plans and runs the weekly night all-dorm floor meetings each week. Assists with the opening and closing of the dormitory at the beginning and end of the year Facilitates the mediation process for struggling roommates for their floor Partners with the Upper School Associate Director to investigate and respond to major school violations, including conducting room searches. Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and academic experience preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent computer proficiency (iPad, Mac computer, Gmail/Google Drive, MS Office – Word/Excel). Ability to get along in a community setting Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in residential life culture and curriculum Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment Caring and patient nature Conflict/resolution skills, problem solving ability, and self-motivation Valid CA driver’s license; ability to drive School vans/transport students Preferred qualifications: One year of experience working with students in an academic setting Dormitory experience
