Job Summary
Power Scholars Academy is a summer learning loss prevention and academic intervention program. We support scholars from all over San Francisco in developing their academic foundation, as well as social emotional and critical thinking skills. Over the course of the summer, scholars spend 1-3 hours per day, four days per week with credentialed teachers reviewing math and literacy concepts to help catch them up to grade level and prepare them for the year ahead. Power Scholars Academy teachers are responsible for implementing curriculum for K-8th grade students, working closely with assistant program leaders to ensure scholar and family engagement, and communicating with families around scholar progress and supports.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred. - Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school with K-8th grade - Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations. - Desire to work with K-8th grade scholars and their families in under-resourced communities. - Outstanding verbal, written, and technological (computer/internet) skills. - Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, & families. - Ability to use multiple approaches to engage scholars and families on virtual platforms and through phone calls. - Demonstrated leadership ability. - Excellent organizational and communication skills. - Committed to the goals of the program and approach. - Curriculum specific requirements (e.g. science/math background for STEM). - Love and respect for children. - Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player. - Belief and commitment to the Y’s mission and values. - Fingerprint background check clearance. - TB test clearance for programs on school sites. - Proof of COVID Vaccination.
