Position Description

CWC Hollywood is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and creative part-time counselor to support students’ social emotional well-being and development. In addition to providing individual and group counseling services, the individual must be passionate about collaborating with staff to maintain a rich social-emotional program in all grades. The school counselor will collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.

Responsibilities

The School Counselor’s job responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual and group counseling sessions for students in grades TK-5.
  • Developing tools to support students’ positive behavior
  • Facilitating social study work groups for students who need more skill-building in this area
  • Supporting faculty in maintaining a coherent program to support students’ social-emotional growth both in and outside of the classroom
  • Developing and assisting with implementation of student IEPs and 504 plans
  • Maintaining student records and appropriate documentation of services provided
  • Participating as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles
  • Maintaining a high-level of professionalism including meeting deadlines, and commitments to self, students, and the community.
  • Conferring with teachers, school leaders, and other instructional personnel, external educational agencies, to aid in the development of robust, appropriate, educational programming and supports to students who are at risk of failure, not meeting school academic goals, and/or are currently being supported by a formal IEP

Qualifications

The ideal School Counselor will have:

  • A Master’s Degree
  • A valid CA Pupil Personnel Services Credential
  • A minimum of two years’ experience teaching in relevant elementary grades
  • Experience working in a socio-economic, racial and culturally diverse classroom setting.
  • Ability to effectively mange and instruct small groups of students
  • An exhibited ability to work with children in a caring and respectful manner in order to create ?a joyful, caring classroom environment where instructional time includes community building, conflict resolution, skill-building, and empowering students to be peacemakers and agents for positive social change
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs
  • Knowledge of and experience with Welligent and other SPED related computer programs to document services, notes, write IEP's and run all necessary reports.
  • Fluency in a second language (ideally Spanish or Korean) is preferred.
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude
  • Personal investment in creating environments in which social emotional learning is the foundation of the culture

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Range: $58,000-$65,000
  • CalSTRS retirement plan eligibility and employer contributions
