Position is 6 hours/day plus a mandatory lunch. 08:00-2:30.

JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Special Education Program Coordinator and site Principal, to perform a variety of responsible clerical work involving typing and related duties; assists in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or an instructional resource setting when necessary; performs various tasks in assisting with the educational needs associated with the special education program to which assigned, and to do related work as required. Position is 190 days.
During the regular course of work employees may have access to or gain information regarding privileged information. Privileged information may include student and/or parent information as well as information regarding fellow employees. It is expected that employees of the Lassen Union High School District will not release any privileged information about students, staff, labor relations, or any topic properly confined to a closed session of the Board.
QUALIFICATIONS
AA Degree, or 48 college units, or successful passage of paraprofessional examination is required. One year of experience in typing and general clerical work. Type at a speed of 40 words per minute from clear copy.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY
Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, and procedures; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and standard office machines. Ability to perform a variety of clerical work involving use of independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed; spell correctly, make arithmetical calculations; understand and carry out oral and written directions; basic child guidance and principles and practices; basic subjects taught in District schools, including, math, grammar, spelling, language, and reading; safe practices in classroom and playground activities; reading, writing, and oral communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; record keeping techniques; ability to learn methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional environment; communicate effectively with children and adults; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work confidentially with discretion; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; conform to and support the assigned teacher’s type of classroom management; supervisor and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures; learn the procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties. Use of safety precautions for cleaning bodily fluids. Maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers. Use common courtesy in the course of duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the designated record keeper for the special education department.
- Answer the telephone and provide information concerning the Special Education program.
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
- Maintain, update, or upload records as necessary or requested by case carriers in various student information systems, including but not limited to AERIES, Beyond SST, and Special Education Information Systems (SEIS), and confidential student files.
- Process and send records requests and files for new or transferred students; file as necessary and purge old files.
- Schedule and maintain a calendar for special education meetings, reviews, transfers, and prepare documents and materials for said meetings.
- Prepare and assist with maintaining paraprofessional schedules; Does not include approving/denial of time off requests
- Attend Individualized Education Programs (IEP) meetings and take meeting notes.
- Track and collect signatures for 504’s.
- Speech Program liaison; includes coordination and scheduling of appointments and assist with logins.
- Prepare binders, caseload lists, correspondence, letters, and forms and notices either independently or from oral instructions with information provided by the case carriers.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, administrative personnel, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Complete and submit purchase orders for supplies.
- Provide cross-coverage in other areas as needed during lunch, break, and employee absences.
- Maintain confidentiality of matters pertaining to district personnel and pupils.
- When needed, tutor individuals or small groups of students and reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Assists with the organization of the 8th Grade Transition meetings and Senior Exit Meetings. May provide support to teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits; and distributing and collecting papers and supplies. Observes and controls behavior of students according to approved procedure; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior to teacher; assists teacher in maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom, in responding to the personal needs of the children. Assists in supervising students in the classroom, or while on field trips; provides special assistance to students as a result of diagnosed needs in the areas of language, reading and math. Attends in-service training sessions and other meetings; performs other related duties as assigned.
