DEFINITION
Under supervision, to prepare data processing source documents for changes in student information, student programs, and school master schedules; to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Responsible for providing data processing materials to the District computer system within designated timelines; compiles student identifying data for student enrollment changes and for updating of student master files and for other student identification purposes; updates student records to reflect enrollment changes or program changes made by students; generate data for student scheduling; maintains course catalogs and master schedules; works with school staff to insure that all school data processed records are accurate and up-to-date; performs preliminary process for grades, run grade reports, make sure grades are all in for report cards to be run and process attendance; prepares reports for student grade analysis.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: High school diploma plus two years of experience with general computer operations. Additional education in computer science, information services or a related field preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Requires a technical understanding of computers and of the functions and capabilities of data processing equipment. Requires the ability to set up and maintain files (attendance, testing, etc.). Must have strong data entry and keyboarding skills. Requires general clerical and record keeping skills. Requires solid communication skills to interact with co-workers and District staff.
Abilities: Requires the ability to perform the various aspects of the position including the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; to perform routine and repetitive tasks on a continuous basis and to prioritize work assignments. Learn the procedures required to prepare a variety of data processing input documents necessary to maintain accurate data processed school records; perform difficult clerical work in preparing accurate data processing input documents and updating required school records in accordance with established procedures; deal effectively with students and faculty members; apply sound judgement in resolving problems and discrepancies in data processing records and preparing input documents required to correct records; type at a rate of 50 words per minute from ordinary transcript or printed or typewritten material.
Physical Abilities: Position involves light to medium work including walking, standing, stooping carrying and lifting of light to medium weight materials (10-50 lbs.). Requires visual acuity and depth perception, strong arm, hand and finger dexterity, and hand, eye coordination. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to hear over phone and carry on routine conversations.
