DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
Provides assistance to the school principal by assuming responsibility for major portions of school operations, including attendance, the counseling and guidance program, discipline of students, and student activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
· Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school, and assumes the duties of the Principal in his/her absence or as directed.

· Plans, organizes and implements a school-wide program for the supervision and control of students, including the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB), On-Campus suspension, Child Study Team, Independent Study, campus, lunch, buses.

· Supervises the safety and security of the students, buildings, and grounds.

· Disciplines students within the framework of district policy and state law, and maintains appropriate records.

· Assists and advises students, parents, and teachers in the resolution of individual student behavioral problems.

· Confers with representatives of law enforcement and social welfare agencies in connection with serious pupil discipline problems.

· Coordinates and approves all students activities including fund raising, student expenditures, assemblies, student clubs, field trips and athletics, special programs and dances, master calendar and use of facilities.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL


· Assists the Principal as directed by supervising and evaluating all assigned personnel, providing counseling and assistance as indicated, recommending appropriate action in cases of substandard performance, and promoting appropriate professional growth. Assists in the selection of certificated and classified employees.

· Coordinates and directs the student counseling and guidance programs; the student welfare program, and lunch program.

· Coordinates and supervises school attendance policies and procedures.

· Assists with the preparation of the student handbook, student code of conduct and responsibility handbook.

· Directs and supervises the preparation and maintenance of required records and reports regarding student and school operations.

· Performs other duties as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate administrative or Supervision credential; a Master’s Degree and a minimum of four years of prior teaching experience are desirable.


ABILITY TO:
· Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of strategic plans of long-range and short-range objectives.
· Assist in the planning, organization and direction of school operations.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
· Maintain current knowledge of effective educational curriculum and instructional strategies.
· Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
· Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
· Provide direction to others and make independent judgments.
· Work independently and proactively with little direction; anticipate problems and opportunities, and respond effectively.
· Organize, direct, evaluate, supervise, and train assigned certificated and classified staff.
· Deal effectively with multiple and concurrent job demands and frequent interruptions.
· Communicate effectively with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
· Prepare and deliver oral presentations and prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

· Read and comprehend handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various types of equipment.
· Operate business equipment properly and efficiently.
· Sit and stand for sustained periods of time.
· Travel as required to effectively conduct the duties of the position.
· Maintain regular attendance.

Requirements / Qualifications

Appropriate administrative credential; a Master’s Degree and a minimum of five years of prior teaching experience are desirable.
