Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

Under direction of the Special Education Administrator and Behavior Intervention Specialist consult with general education and special education classroom staff to provide behavior support, implement Behavior Support Plans and collect data as it relates to behavior. Performs task analysis at assigned sites for initial training and ongoing support, including follow-up activities related to data collection.  Provides support to train students in integrated settings and natural environments.  May assist driver with student behavior problems and keeping students orderly on the bus.  Assists students with toilet functions; taking them to the bathroom, changing diapers, assisting students with cleanup and changing clothes when necessary.  Assists students in physical education and motor skill activities such as balancing, throwing and catching, swimming, sensory perception, etc.  Supervises students in the performance of specialized learning function such as cleaning, life skills, crafts, cooking, baking, etc.  Attends student status meetings and revises implementation strategies as appropriate.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Education/Experience: Successful candidate must possess high school diploma, or equivalent plus two years paid or verifiable volunteer experience providing behavior related services. Preference will be given to candidates with verifiable training and experience in Applied Behavior Analysis, discrete trial training, PECS, TEACCH, and other behavior strategies. Experience with peer integration strategies preferred. Experience with positive behavior skill intervention implementation preferred. Experience collecting data, monitoring and implementing data driven behavioral goals preferred. Experience with specialized populations with behavior needs preferred. Experience with specialized instructional techniques such as Applied Behavior Analysis, Individual Discrete Skill Training, Picture Exchange Communication Systems, Floor Time, TEACCH, and Social Stories, preferred. Experience modeling and coaching behavioral strategies preferred. Experience working in settings with limited daily supervision and intense instructional goals preferred. Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of Individualized Education Program process, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and Non-violent crisis intervention. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Present clear and concise written and verbal communications and possess strong inter-personal skills. Exercise good judgment. Assist young or disabled students on and off the bus and program vehicles. Handle confidential materials with discretion. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county office personnel, school district personnel, outside agencies, and parents. Licenses/other Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and insurability by the district’s auto insurance carrier must be maintained at all times while employed by the district.
