Job Summary

Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) serves our county’s most vulnerable students, and supports school leaders, teachers, and students across the county. We support nearly 780? schools and more than 500,000 students, including the 2,020 children we educate each year through our Juvenile Court and Community Schools. SDCOE provides a variety of services for the 42 school districts, 131 charter schools, and five community college districts in the county. SDCOE is currently recruiting to fill one (1) full-time position in the role of Coordinator, Special Education for the San Diego East County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) office. This position is grant funded until September 30, 2023. The East County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is composed of 11 local education agencies (LEA) located in the southeast quarter of San Diego County, going east to the Imperial County line and south to our border with Mexico. The LEAs include Alpine Union, Barona Indian Charter, Cajon Valley Union, Dehesa, Grossmont Union High, Jamul-Dulzura Union, Lakeside Union, La Mesa-Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Mountain Empire Unified, and Santee. There are approximately 80,000 students enrolled in the 11 districts, including over 10,000 students in special education programs. Individual district enrollments vary from less than 200 to over 20,000 students, indicating the need for the wide range of educational offerings available to serve students in the suburban and rural areas of the SELPA. The Coordinator, Special Education, is responsible for facilitating and planning various Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and countywide activities; coordinating assigned special education program components and related activities; and serving as a resource to member districts and others.
