JOB OPENING: OSA Instrumental Music Position, Woodwind Instructor - Adjunct Part time (.4 - .6 FTE) Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) is a dynamic, thriving, diverse public charter school in downtown Oakland that serves approximately 800 students in grades 6-12. Each student focuses on one of nine arts pathways. In our Instrumental Pathway, we are seeking a woodwind instructor, mainly clarinet, flute, and also oboe, to support our woodwind students in sectionals, school orchestra, and jazz combos/ensembles. Experience with other instruments such as alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, would be helpful as well. This position entails leading young woodwind players of various levels: from beginner to advanced, 6th grade on up to 12th grade. Classes will guide students in sectionals, working on technique, sight-reading, group playing, and some improvisation. Additional support will be provided periodically for the school orchestra. This position works closely with the Orchestra Director and will collaboratively create content for the year. Strong preference for teachers who love programming a culturally diverse repertoire. There may be a possibility to teach theory and/or foundational courses as well depending on the applicant’s background. BIPOC educators are highly encouraged to apply. Education and Experience: • Bachelor's degree in music, preferably Performance or Music Education, from an accredited college or university required. • At least three years of prior music teaching experience required; group courses and experience leading diverse levels from beginning to advanced is highly recommended. • Advanced understanding of repertoire, technique development books, exercises pertaining to respective instruments. • Experience working successfully with middle-school and high school age children (11- 18). • Strong organizational skills required as well as the ability to keep weekly grades, monitor a classroom of 6-12 instrumentalists. • Must have
